Rolling Winter Wheat

Has anyone started rolling winter wheat as yet, I have been holding off as night time temperatures have been very low to freezing?

We’ve been rolling ours. Having to stop soon as the stems are starting to extend which risks damaging the ears.

Planning to start rolling some Nov drilled wheat next week - had Hatra last week so leaving a 2 week gap for it to try and recover.

Will likely coincide with SB planting too so rollers will be on the tractor anyway.

Done some ten days ago and finished yesterday after waiting ten days after spraying.some ground now like concrete and rolls not doing much.certainly perked up the barley rolled 2 weeks ago

October drilled wheat is certainly starting to get a bit ahead of it now. Always a struggle fitting it in around grassweed sprays on earlier drilled crops for sure.

All our late( December and February wheat is still to be done but plenty of time yet, the feb stuff has not long been full row

I think this will be a year where it brings big benefit

Yup I am hoping I can salvage something from the jan crops with it. They would have been awesome if it wasn’t for the 140mm in 3 weeks

Is anyone going to roll spring wheat once it’s up?
Also, in a more normal year should we roll winter wheat as a matter of course, rather than using ccc and possibly micronutrients early on? It feels like a better way of mimicking a more natural grazed and trodden type effect?

Always wondered as the headland could take quite a hammering.

Controlled traffic style, using the tramlines as much as possible to reduce unnecessary wheelings.

Did all mine last week, finished on Sunday. Will go in with mang and some ccc on the October drilled stuff end of this week. It’s already looking much better.
I go up and down the tramlines first then come back across the field and fill in the gaps than once round the headland. Auto steer makes this much easier tho.

Round the field 3 times then up and down. Rolling all ours this wk, WB Nov drilled all WW Jan/Feb drilled.
