Got an outstanding rec for some roundup, pre beans, field is covered in large wheat vols and blackgrass, whats the thinking of spraying it tomorrow am on the frost when the plants are white, is it all going to run off when it thaws? Better of waiting for a wet yet defrosted leaf?

If its too cold you may have problem with freezing nozzles (sounds painful!).
-5 at 7am here this morning, was out about 8ish putting bifenox on osr for carlock, no problems with freezing up but was near the yard and its road travel and wind chill that normally starts it off I find, oh and I had antifreeze left in all the nozzle bodies until I started spraying.

I had problems with kerb a while ago but spraying into the cold in the afternoon. Don't know the temp would guess at f**king cold or thereabouts, probably depends on nozzles and pressure as well.

Roundup will be fine, just take longer to work. If the leaf is completely covered in frost would maybe wait a bit but if you can see green I would think you will be fine.

Well it must be their 2nd application then!! Kerb I believe went on end of Oct/early Nov looking at the dead blackgrass (and fresh 2 leaf growing like buggery) when I walked the dogs over a small patch the other day. Suspect it was Fox as a lot of Charlock, certainly either one or t'other!!

How do you guys get water out of the frozen water tank and stop the lines and nozzles freezing up??

What is your tank made of? If it's metal a space heater pointed towards it will thaw it pretty quickly.

Do you have any liquid fertiliser?

If you have a drive on drying floor, park the sprayer in the shed & blow the heap. The grain will have at least 5 oC in it and the airflow past the sprayer out of the doors will thaw it.

@Oat yes went early on some for a customer very bad black grass and they think it had run out of steam so want a top up.
At home I think I am going to do one field again as it's got quite a bit in it which is going but I want to keep osr a clean break crop and also see if it stops the spring germinated BG that you get along tramlines down leg edges etc.
