Has anybody any preferences for the use of either with pod stick, as 2kg of roundup max is nearly double the cost of 4 litres of 360 and wetter! Does the roundup max work faster?

Roundup Max probably does work a bit quicker as it has lots of wetters, buffering agents, drift retardants, stickers etc etc built into it as well as the Monsanto label, hence the price mark up. I use generic but always keep a stash of Roundup Max in case of rainy weather at application. I doubt it will make more than a day or two's difference. Why not do a bit with both to see if it makes any difference?

Time of day of application can also make a difference to how long it takes to go off. Always better to put in on first thing in the morning IME, & I'm not talking about 8am either.

360g is 360g

My independent agronomist did some trails into this the last couple of years and the cheapest generic was no worse than the knobs and whistles branded product per g of active

weeds in sussex are tough as.. point taken if mine is also???

Not doubting your trail at all, just not what my agronomist found when comparing same g of active against each other

Lot of the branded products do work better but it's easy to forget they are stronger so should be compared to higher rates of the generic / cheaper product

thats fair Clive. but not to get to far from the point of the post, i do believe you get what you pay for.. generic ru + a bit of spotlight stuffs things up here in sussex just as good as round up flex. rates to be anounced..

I find they all do the same job at the time but I'm convinced the max type products keep the stubble cleaner for longer, almost like the max kills the lot including the whole root , while the cheaper stuff lets the root eventually recover to regrow

The key to any glyphosate applications is to know your water hardness. Glyphosate binds to cations in hard water reducing efficacy. If you are in a hard water area, do add a "water conditioner" first. Do not be fooled by Alkaline Hydrolysis (this is something completely different), and be mindful of what chemical action your chosen water condition delivers. (ie does it complex the cations or complex the glyphosate etc? Ask the supplier!

There can be a relation between pH and "hardness" but generally separate testing should be done. Different products react differently to different water conditions.

How much difference does pH make....and why? :)

Hope it's not too dim a question to ask!
Our mains water comes from chalk aquifers mainly and so is very hard, kettles etc get a lot of scale. From my understanding the Ca ions take up exchange sites in the water and so what ever you add to the water you can not dissolve so much as there is already dissolved solids in the water. How this effects round up effectiveness I can not remember at the moment.

The charge on the glyphosate molecule and the cation lock up together and render the glyphosate inactive. Solution is either complex the glyphosate first (not as effective) or lock the cations up before adding the glyphosate i.e. x-change
