NTRIP RTK through a roaming simcard (multi-network) is probably the best option, two years in and yet to have a drop out, phone networks have a massive infrastructure in comparison to radio RTK. Problem with radio RTK is it is basically line of site, trees, woods, valleys block it out. Phone signal, especially with a roaming sim doesnt seem to have these issues. Even in areas where we get no phone signal, we still get RTK, i think its a combination of roaming sim and the fact that recivever has a far bigger antenna than a mobile phone, and is positioned on the roof of the cab.

There is nothing worse than a patchy correction signal as it makes the whole system useless when correction keeps jumping in and out

Rangepoint is £250/yr sub and is only 1 unlock code I believe (might not be any). Think your getting yourself confused with the various other signal subs that are available.

Where are you buying RTK unlocked systems for £625??
No accuracy unlocks are required on compatible Trimble displays or receivers for Trimble RangePoint RTX correction, this is a broadacre correction that would offer 15cm pass-to-pass accuracy.

12 Months Trimble RangePoint RTX Subscription – Retail Price: £265.00 ex VAT

All new Trimble displays & receivers purchased after October 2017 qualify for a free 12 Months Trimble RangePoint RTX Subscription up until the end of March 2019.

This sounds interesting.
Which dealer provides the kit, and what sort of price is involved ?

I have no experience with this sort of thing yet, but would like to get on-board sometime

Hi All

The RTK Farming SIM Card service was launched to allow us to offer RTK provision for all makes and manufacturers we are still fully supportive of our radio network as well.

The SIM card service is £625 per year including the SIM card and given the vast improvements in mobile coverage over the last few years can prove to be a real advantage for some customers as there is no need to change frequency and we can remote monitor any issues.

Happy to answer any questions on either of our services.

Thanks
PJ

Sorry meant to say it depends on your vehicle you can have an after market screen from Trimble, Topcon etc and depending on the age and make of the tractor you can go with the manufacturers system.

Is a Trimble FM750 using HP2 or Rangepoint RTX going to need an unlock to use SIM RTK?

Have used base station through RTK Farming for a few years. Switched from a sim card system as kept getting signal dropping out at certain times of day.
Base station signal has been superb across our land and very accurate year on year for drilling, spraying etc. keeping tramlines in same place and no obvious gaps with drilling and cultivations. As a company they are extremely knowledgeable in sorting issues if there is a problem. Had a couple of issues when we switched equipment over to a new tractor this year which they were helpful with, although it was things that I had done wrong. My only problem is on one field at home where I lose signal half way up the field. Very random and the same every year. There are no trees, elec poles etc. Everywhere else works perfect.
Happy to arrange for someone to come and have a look at the issue and see if something can be done. My guess though is that its local interference of some kind.

Thanks. It is a small area with it working fine all around and elsewhere. We have learnt to live with it as signal comes back top and bottom of the field. It is nice as a reminder to the drivers how lucky they are to have autosteer installed.

We are using topcon's AGI4, i prefer topcon to greenstar, but these are the only two i have experience with. The RTK module in the AGI4 can do both radio RTK and sim based (NTRIP) as standard, so you can chop and change if you needed, although i would think if you went NTRIP you would not want to use radio. Even in areas of strong radio signal (close to the mast) the radio signal will still drop out under trees on headlands when turning round etc, where by an NTRIP signal doesnt seem to.

If you do go with a roaming sim, look into what networks the sim will roam between, they dont all offer connection to every network, which may or may not be an issue in your area. The one we uses covers all uk networks and has been 100% faultless for us. I dont recall a single correction dropout in the last 2 years

Sorry to hijack threads I’m looking at a claas tractor that has a outback screen , (s3)? , been on rtk with a mobile tripod style mast .
What would I need and what costs would I expect to put this on a rtk signal from a provider covering my area to replace the mobile antenna?

Hi

as it's currently using a mobile station it will be using radio RTK. In order to put it on the RTK Farming network it will need to have a modem installed. We would charge £400 for the modem and then you would be able to use the ntrip service. It's a fairly simple job.

I was wondering the same but we have only rangepoint which runs out in may, what an unlock code would cost if needed at all to go to centrepoint fast?

Nobody's answered that yet.

Going to be about 2.5k to go from centerpoint to rtk.

Don't know if its worth it. Subscription saving will be £300 per year so 8 years to cover that.

Will own radio receiver though.

£1800 unlock is the killer. Can't transfer it to other machine either as its part of tractor.

I’m running Centrepoint Rtx. I was offered Centrepoint Rtx fast instead this year but declined as the subscription was a fair bit more and I couldn’t see the benefit as the accuracy is no better and I don’t worry too much about having to wait to pick up the signal.
I’m fairly sure there is no additional unlock for the Centrepoint fast over and above Centrepoint which is the omnistar unlock.
You do, however, need this omnistar unlock which does cost a fair bit over the basic rangepoint unlock.
