Morning

We have a aged ewe trying to lamb at the minute but i've a notion the cervix has not dilated correctly.

Have given her a shot of oxytocin. Will wait and see if it makes much difference.

Should it have limited affect what else could i try to improve things?

Lots of lube and massage cervix continually

Yes,and it can take a while, making your arm ache, you just have to get a finger in then gradually so not to tear anything get another in applying pressure.Time is your ally as i believe the pressure stimulates the ewe to produce hormones which allow the cervix to open.Still damn annoying when you are really busy though.

Yes, time, given she is an older ewe, it may end up CS.
Other thing to say is it rung or is the lamb coming with its back first?
Does cervix have that tight polomint like feeling

Wouldnt say its really tight, fair bit of room, but if i dare pull it i know it will rip. lamb is still alive i reckon but no showing much interest in moving. Spindly legs so its probably a weaker lamb.

Ewe has definitely opened a bit in last hr. Have massaged her while, will maybe give her a bit more time, doesnt seem to under any pressure.

ring womb has to be the worst problem at lambing when you don't have the time. I have took the odd one to the vet thinking they'd do a CS. but no they just pulled the lamb on out. tearing the ewe.... & charged me £100 for the privilege. these days if I can't sort it then it's the 410 before the vet.

don't know. but you've got nothing to lose by trying it. I'd use calciject 6 20%.cmd then you're getting some sugar and mag in there too.

just had a funny lambing- found the ewe with a ear poking out her vag. thought it was a tail but no it was one ear. never had a ewe push a turned head out that far before.

cervix opened up well after a while but unfortunately lamb seem to have curved up into a ball and took an age to get out. the head just did not want to come into birth canal at all, whatever way it was twisted. was dead by the time it got out.

lambing has been going pretty well over the last two weeks, but for some reason the last two Sundays have been a nightmare! maybe I need to start going to Church again!

Sorry you lost the lamb, but I always suspect a sideways presentation if cervix dosnt dilate & Again if ewe appears as if squatting to pee.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
