Looking to plant some combinable rye this autumn once osr is harvested then in April next year plant spring barley. Are there any issues with this idea as it’s 2 white crops for starters? Any Chems to take volunteer rye out of spring barley?
We are going with rye because it’s bad BG soil so we want complete smothering which we’ve seen locally work brilliantly.

Nothing to remove Vol Rye from another cereal crop.
However you will kill it with round up pre planting so not an issue?

  3. you could leave the OSR volunteers and use that as the cover
Or use oats as the cover

Rye seems hideously expensive as a cereal, will look to oats instead.
