Just to make everyone feel better, today's pictures, nothing fit, rain tonight, tomorrow, Sunday and Monday on forecast....

Italian second cut.

Meadow hay only cut.

and, my saddest of all - Westerwold headland, abandoned last Friday for clay build up beneath the mower bed.

The joys of making hay in the driest corner of England, all cut a week ago on a good forecast.

I think I'd be tempted to bale and wrap it myself.

I have thought that too, but it has gone a bit too far, I have plenty of haylage as well, and need the quads for the cows ideally, that Westerwold is full of soil, I daren't wrap it.

I baled the worst hay i ever baled this week .got it dry but ended up like dead rushes .mistake i made was listening to the weather man .rain forcast no rain . Dry weeather forcast it pours down

Glad we've no hay to make this year be some mouldy stuff around this autumn

The hay is worth salvaging by baling and wrapping. If the westerwolds are full of soil then abandon for now and bale for bedding at a later date?

150 small bales here baled too early to beat the rain now sweating and going black humph ! had hoped we wouldn't have to buy any hay in this winter

Have found Meteorological Weather Charts North Atlantic useful. One shows animated jetstream charts over a few days.
It seems when the stream is over or south of your location at this time of year, expect unsettled weather.
I don't profess to be a forecaster though but I like to see it staying to the north.

It only looks as far as Wednesday and I wouldn't be thinking about hay at the moment. Looks like a big stream heading for us by Wed too.

I have 100 acres of barley straw down on a local farm. They cut it a fortnight ago, and as we were TB testing and doing wholecrop, and the straw was green we never got it baled. Now having it's third wash!
Getting agonised calls from the farmer and manager, as they want it cleared for rape, hopefully we will do something with it next week, forecast a few days of dry and occasional sun.

My dad lives by his weather glass, and rather than look on the met office app I'd rather ask him as he's usually nearer the mark.

I've given up making hay round here too stressful by half. Struggle with silage to be honest with weather like this. Went to farm this afternoon to drill stubble turnips went once round blocked the drill and went home too wet

Seen a lot worse, I'm sure it will do for belly fill for something. I probably wouldn't of moved it though if it was me, if more rain was forecast
