Are they not useful when you cant find the stopcockYes. No. Personally would never use them.

Not too bothered about a leakMaybe. Personally would rather do the job properly. New farm had a few. Doesnt take much for them to leak on a pressure pipe or suck air on a suction side.
What are they ?Can you not open a tap further back? Or use one of those guyco adjustable fittings. Highly recommend them.

Yep . Have used them several times to connect to 3” main . Can’t find a picture of the ones we use , but they are brass plates and 25 mm t off. Work well no issues. Get them from a big plumbing wholesalers in BellshillCan you buy these? Are they any good?

Conincidentaly I was in there yesterday getting a special fitting for an obscure alkathene pipe. It's my go to place for those fittings that the local stockists will never have. As the man on the counter says, if we don't have it or can't get it you'll not get it anywhere else. Frazers it's called.Yep . Have used them several times to connect to 3” main .
