Why is that 2tractors? We have put all out PP into SAM3 this year, and Having taken advise on it "improved" means it has had something fert or sprays or some kind of improvement in the last 15 years. Or have I missed something here? What do you know that I don't??
Just watching the guidance on "improved grassland" change as the SFI scheme emerges, originally it said greater than 30% PRG now it says a high proportion of PRG and clovers-who knows what that means in % terms, probably more than 50% ???
I am sure you will be fine if you can show how the PP has been managed in the previous 15,years. It's as I said the very old PP that has not been managed well that will not meet the definition.

The key thing for any SAM 3 sward is managing it in a way that meets the aims of the action and maintain the herbs and legumes for 3 years without having to reseed again.

No more than 70% Ryegrass and Festulolium

You don't have to keep it down for 3 year either, it's not clear but they have not said you can't rip it out after a year as long as you meet the aims

Derrick the 70% is in the seed mix, I was quoting the requirements for a pp to be designated an improved pp prior to adding the SAM3 mix.

Yes it can be a rotated action but not many people will want to be renewing the area every year, mind you good for seed sales!!

just to show the stupidity of the new system.

SFI will not pay you for a herbal ley + lots of other options on 'hefer/shine' parcels of land, in case the deep rooting herbs, damage underground historical remains.

this is a big problem for us. Today, been told, its perfectly ok to plant herbal leys, in the affected fields, just deduct the 'shine' area from the claim........... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

we did think we were going to have to create new land parcels, to avoid that, or, as we will do with some, apply through w/board.

nuts

Hi Som. May I ask who told you that could just deduct the SHIN area. As in was it in a RPA / DEFRA official capacity or an adviser and if the latter on what authority. Thank you.

fwag, but check for yourself, seems to be a lot of conflicting information about.

Thank you. The sensible approach and how I tackled the issue with the first applications I assisted with, only to be told that was wrong by the RPA helpline. Will have to go back to RPA with an email for determination. Same with all schemes when they start out. Cheers.
