Thanks for the join. I have recently got this tractor going after I overhauled it. wasn't running when I got it, will be our first cab tractor. This is what I have done to it. Rings, bearings, had the cylinder heads redone, injectors redone 2 new injector pumps the other 2 I replaced. Drained fuel tank all new rubber lines all new fuel filters cleaned filter in fuel transfer pump also. It runs starts good -it was running hot/lean on cyl 2 3 so I adjusted all the pumps got them within 10 to 15 degrees of one another. It seems the long it runs it doesn't miss but seems rough. When I drove it it high gear when u bog it down it doesn't seems to recover very fast. It revs fines unloaded. I'm going to recheck valve clearance today and mess with the govenor. After running it seems to hunt some at high idle. Hope to get to use in the hayfields with my dad. Thanks for the information

A video would help.

Every Explorer 70 I've owned has been gutless and soul destroying to drive in factory form so I wouldn't worry about it being down on power. It's a "new" engine too, so will take time to loosen up.

The air cooled engines are naturally noticeably "rattlier" than water cooled equivalents, but I wouldn't say they run rough.

Any black smoke under load or would you say it's running a bit lean?

There's a page in the manual which covers the screws on the governor, one of them should help with your hunting idle.

Go through all your checks, if everything checks out, don't be afraid to turn the fuel up a tad on the injector pump and it'll liven the engine up quite nicely and stop the bores from glazing up.

Thanks Box. I shot the sides of the cylinders with a infrared heat gun and 2 and 3 were hotter so I adjusted all the pumps got them close but it did seem to have a fuel knock one no 1 cylinder so I swapped 1 and 2 Injectors and the knock stayed on the no1 cylinder. All this started after I adjusted all the pumps. I turned 2 and 3 down and turned 1 and 4 up. I rechecked all the valve adjustments today. So I turned no 1 pump down and my knock seemed to go away. It's not running as hot as the others but not far off. Power seems and little better after I drove it. I may try to turned the others down to match that one. After I get that lined out I will adjust some on the governor. No black smoke that I can see. Fix all that then on to the the three point it won't lift or go down I figure the valve is stuck in the distributor.
