Yes the suction filter a regular thing. I reckon our has just turned or close to 30 years, we have owned it for 20 years last month. I have never changed any of the ram seals although there is a tiny little bit of creep. The only internal ram repair was one compensator ram repaired (driver error ) professionally 15 years ago. That is now the only ram that has an external weep. Had the pin eye come off the crowd ram 5 or 6 years ago. I welded in situ, still on there.

I expect the rod seal they used on the comp ram was a non self energised type. No good for self level rams or steering rams that often have low pressures in them.

Thanks for all your replies and help. I’ve decided that trailer braking probably isn’t feasible (well not at a sensible cost!) so will simply use the pick up hitch I’ve fitted for moving stuff around the yard. A modern tractor and loader will be a more practical option for the future. Thanks again.

Sorry was i missing something here?
Is this electric hydraulic pump just for trailer brakes and nothing else?

That machine isnt really fit for towing anyway its way to heavy must be 11ton plus on its own. Its hard enough work on it as it is hauling its own arse around let alone trying to tow aswell.

No you haven’t missed anything. I’ve taken your advice on board. Think I was trying to make a silk purse from a sows ear!

The machine is 6 tonne but heavy enough for the engine as it is.

Cheers.
