Scraper passage

We have some long scraper passageways in our cubicle shed serviced with hydraulic scrapers. We also have a digi. problem so whilst doing some other work we are thinking of putting a 4ft slatted passage right down the length of the passage to reduce the slurry wave and generally improve feet hygiene. Any advice, any experience, any pictures please? To keep it simple maybe even use a large twin wall pipe to create the channel?

My scraper passage is 112m long and my cows have clean and dry feet. My approach is much much cheaper than a slatted solution and the cows look the same.
(fyi: i sent the drawing of my shed to him earlier today)

240ft scrape passage here and no digi prblems since installing a Hoofcount auto footbath on exit from parlour.
Scrapers run every 2 hours in cubicle passage and 6 hours down feed passage.

Installing a foot bath will almost certainly be cheaper and easier than digging up the shed.

Wouldn’t be without my hydraulic scrapers,go every two hours, never had oil overheat or notches get clogged with sh!t,no digi.
footbathed once every 7 to 10 days in winter with formalin and now they are out by day we’ll do them once maybe twice a month

Sounds like you have the money so don’t waste time and put in a slatted passage and go rope every couple of hours.

I'm afraid that cash is very much at a premium hence why we are using secondhand scrapers! However we have to do something improve foot hygiene and lameness. We find that even with running the scrapers more frequently there is still a slurry wave and we need to create a loafing area at the top end of the shed and if we put in a channel down the length of the shed we thought we would run it down the passageway and with some slats solve two problems in one go. To keep the cost down we were considering using a twin wall pipe for the channel and maybe not a continuous slat cover, maybe every other 4/6 ft?

Ur lucky mines use to cost fortune had them 5 years took then out control panel was also a pain. My hoses where under ground along with the ram box seal would go then hoses. Electric bill was high because I run them more often. Took them out put rope ones in £5.60 I save on electric a day and scrap out more than double the amount of times.

They sound like far more trouble than mine.

Rope are so simple it's great. Change the ropes periodically and nothing need go wrong. Run them hourly, none of the mechanism is exposed to the slurry. Ideal. Does't really want a slat and channel each end of the passage though.
