Second hand trucks

Well look on the bright side. hopefully because you bought at auction it was considerably cheaper than buying from a dealer. That should give you some leeway to effect repairs.

in a worst case scenario you could have paid considerably more to get something similar from a dealer only for it to go bang the day after the warranty ran out.

1st choice they are a company we use in the garage go onlime enter your details of what you want then all the breakers yards ring you with their prices and you then decide which is best
They offer guarantee but one peice of advice i will give you is cheapset isnt always the best unless you are getting rid of truck.
Could you not bang a set of shells init and fire it back in the auction

I was advised leave it to cool down, see if it will run, a friend who works at the auction said if I could get it back down there he would make sure it was kept cold and made it through the ring.

I'm not keen on doing that to somebody though, and best case scenario I'll lose £400 on it. Am currently wondering wether to put that money towards a new engine, at least then I'd know what I have as at the end of the day if I sold it, I still need to buy something back

All depends do you want the truck, have you fallen out with it
I imagen a bare engine wont be to dear just a bit of labour swapping all parts over etc
How do you feel about the truck

i didnt really have it long enough to form an opinion, although I will say underneath was immaculate, no rust in sight. The truck cost me £3100, which if bought privately or from a dealer I would of thought it would be between £5-6, so maybe still not that expensive a truck after another engine?

If it doesn't turn over in the morning I think I have no choice but to spend the money on it.

Just get an engine for it then i would if its sound underneath
Is the oil in the engine clean and slippery or dirty and thin
Could of had issue before and bodged up with clean oil is the usual trick
Engine at a guess and a rough guess £800

We have one of these on the farm, 57 plate rodeo with the common rail engine. Engine failed just before Christmas having done 96k miles. Quite a heavy knock, running unevenly and smoking. Broken rings and cracked pistons quite common apparently but normally at around 150k miles. Not sure if this was the issue with ours though.

Picked up a second hand engine, paid around £1700+vat, so brace yourself! Filled out all of the online breaker forms to source one, but ended up buying one off eBay. Not easy to find, they are quite rare and expensive! Thornton breakers were helpful but didn't have an engine at the time. They would have fitted a second hand unit all in for about £2.5k. Swapped the engine ourselves to save some money, it was quite a big job for novices. Looked into repairing but didn't trust most engine reconditioning places.

It was a difficult call whether to repair or flog on, but worth almost nothing with a knackered engine hence our decision. Fortunately running well now.

Best of luck! They are a good truck but not as bulletproof as reputation suggests...

Yup it hurt a lot! Thought i would pick one up for about 800 quid. Spent 6 weeks looking and filled out multiple online breaker forms, but this seemed to be the going rate. That was for an engine with fuel pump, injectors and flywheel. No turbo or other ancillaries. Out of a 2010 model with 60k miles. You might get lucky and pick one up cheaper, but just passing on my recent experience! Places didn't seem to be interested in negotiating...

Had lots of offers to repair it for a similar price ot less from engine reconditioning companies, but heard too many horror stories. Eg jacking the price up while engine/vehicle is in bits, or poor workmanship.

It was a chance either way!

Hope he wasn't the previous owners friend too:eek:
Sounds like a common ploy if he's readily offering that service.

Hope you get fixed up without too much expense.

Thats a lot of money for an engine, I wouldn't want to pay much more than £1000 for a S/H swap. Depending on whats made it go bang then stripping and rebuilding may be a better option, you'll know what you have then. A decent garage should have it swapped within a day.

Try Bilcar engineering Shrewsbury. They do engine rebuilds and are specialists in Nissan but do other makes as well. Their number is
01743 454044 and they could give you an idea of the cost. I would think personally it is probably less than a 2nd hand unit and at least you know what you have got for your money.
