Yes,

The better crop had Spring Barley last year, followed by sheep grazed stubble turnips.

The not so good field had permanent-ish pasture that i had let some horses on over winter.

How much manganese per acre? I expect a can will do 10 acres and cost a fortune for my titchy three acre plot!
You should be able to get a 10L can for less than £20 @ 4L/ha that'll do 2.5ha so just over 6 acres.

I guessed PP was before worst field. So I diagnose decaying sward and compaction, from my armchair 100miles away;)

Good weather promised, so I cut some hay!

This was the reseed from last year, and it's come well, a few thistles, but generally clean, plenty of clover too.

I've been after a mower conditioner for a while, it's a long job cutting with a 5ft6 mower, and a conditioner should bring the hay on a bit quicker. I found this one, a John Deere 1320, a bit of fettling and a good service and she's off! Cuts well, drives easily, no excessive noise or rumbles, so far so good... :)

That mower will probably hold its value for many years. There are some good buys to be had in the second hand machinery trade if you know what to look for and what the machines are worth. Looks like you have got a very useful mower there Emyr.

However I see that your tractor has once again broken down: maybe you need to look out for something more reliable like a Massey?

See, @DeeGee, you started off well then, before descending back to your own brand of nonsense! Please try harder!

What variety of barley Emyr? Looks really well, how much fertiliser did it get?

Westminster.

Sowed at 80 kg/acre, with 55kg/acre (ish) put down the spout when sowing.

Sprayed it with Answer FX to get rid of some weedy nonsense.

It had stubble turnips on it over winter, with lambs grazing that, that must have helped...?

Yes sheep on turnips will definitely have helped, but it looks a really good crop. What happens to the grain at harvest, is it sold before combining?

Weather's a bit rubbish, but theres a chance to steal a bit in-between showers. Two fields of barley this year, the first was cut yesterday.

Nice fat shiny grain, 3 acres filled a 7 ton trailer, so not too bad, when all things considered,

Straw looks sparse, it would'nt have baled today, but will soon come I recon...

The old girl, her 40th harvest, is doing well, very satisfying to push on through a ripe crop that flows well in the afternoon sun! :)
