Dairy farmers are mostly on a fixed income. They can't just raise milk price because their expenses go up. Their job is to spend as little of their milk cheque as possible, thats the only way to make a profit.
Many farmers write here that they have x amount of spfh's in the area to choose from, and several report about rising numbers. In my mind that's an indication of a job worth doing, since more wanna do it. That usually means prices are unlikely to go up.
I don't understand why so many contractors complain about farmers who want the job done cheap. They set their own price, and are never forced to do anything at a lower price than they want to. Nobody want to pay more for anything, than they have to.
Here spfh's are all run on a price/hour, not acres.
For first cut last year, we paid 17,5 £/acre including diesel for the spfh. Average for all 4 cuts was 10 £/acre including diesel. All paid by the hours spend.
Because all dairy farmers are the same, surely?
