If there ever is a year to sell forward, its got to be this one hasn't it?
Living off the back of 12 harvest crop higher prices and about £190/t achievable for March 14? With min quality contract £210/t should be there or thereabouts?
Problem is as somebody that always has allocated tonnage forward on an unpriced min premium contract I dare not after last years dismal 2.1t/acre average yield. Luckily I am not short on tonnage as I would only ever do this deal on 50% of expected yield.
However not sure I will ever do it again either because even allocating 50% forward what yields are we going to get? If we get a dry spring after 12 months of wet, it will be wreck everything because theres not proper root structure and continued wet means potentially no crop.
What we all need is a 'ideal spring weather pattern' ..... lottery ticket anybody?
