Stores made crazy money at Ashford today, sold 10 fat today 24-28 month old, saw yearling stores sell for just as much money, though smart looking but still. Took a punt on 2 pens of 10 month old limmys steers, £680.

Sorry to hyjack thread but we have a group of British fri X limi steals around 14 months old, they are in for routine to test 10 March and then aim to sell them rather than turn out, looking well on 4kg of blend, plus silage& straw. Only problem is that they were born while moving farms and missed getting de horned, will horns knock the price? I guess someone can summer them, then have them fit by next Christmas time 12 weeks in a shed.

You pay levies d/w whether auction or abbatoir , the guy buying stores expects to make profit , and he pays fees when he sells them . that's how it works .
Yes, but if you’ve got cattle nearly ready, or as some were saying ready, but sell them store. You avoid any levy and quite possibly get more per kg, without needing to give them a final push .

The levy is nothing , and you might make more as stores , but not this year .
Finishers aren't buying your cattle because they like you , although that is entirely possible they hope to make money , because you don't wish to pay levies or pay FA , simples .

Fat trades back so any strong stores close to finish have come back too. All things point to a better fat trade summer onwards so younger things are being bought on that higher return gamble.

Get them dehorned before it warms up and the flies get about or just wire them off leaving them an inch or two

Yes the trade was definatly lower. Weather fodder shortage/grain price is catching up with everyone who knows.
They said that there was no Paul cash, Paul Sanderson or Ross mason. That would have to knock the trade back a fair bit. I half thought of going but was told they were dear week before. Went to rugby instead and the were mental in there.

The store cattle I have seen sold it looks like the well fed beast near to finished that need a bit more flesh but not frame which are slightly back on the year but not by much. The other types which are to keep for a while which are short of frame or condition or both are up to £150 less than last year

Rugby would be an easy trip from here and 12 miles less than Drayton probably worth a punt

Up to now yes but fat trade has dropped lately. Stores have risen since xmas but fodder shortage is holding people back, some are buying but some are thinking they might just as well give a £100 more for them in the spring
