Anyone had this before = I am away to re-seed a field I have rented not been ploughed before and there is a small dip in field tipped 10 loads of stoney topsoil (80-100 tons ) beside dip but have been reported to sepa they came to look at it and said I need to jump through hoops to get that done ! Idea was to strip off existing soil put stoney top soil in replace with existing top soil , dip is about 3 feet deep 3 meters wide ,doing this so we can plough it ! They have said I should have had transfer licence to move it there was moved 500m from where it was stored on same farm , I need to test the soil to see if it's contaminated test the original soil because moved on soil has to be the same as original, measure up area to see how much cubic metres needs to go in and any spare as to go to licenced tip ! Also wanted to know where originally it came from landlords father let folk from village tip stuff from house foundations etc about 15 years ago ! All to go into a report to them and they look at it and give me an answer in 21 days ! It's beside river, dip is 15 meters off top of river bank

Surely if it’s being moved from one of landlords fields to another there shouldn’t be an issue?
Different if being imported in from elsewhere.
I’d be handing it over to the landlord to deal with. Remember and tell him the spoil came from that new shed he got put up a few years back rather than villagers housebuilds.

Yeah we did not think doing a tiny job would cause any problems landlord a friend and I asked him if it was ok to fill in the dip to improve the field

Thinking about it, half the trouble with farmers is that we are too willing to talk to people, whether it be users of footpaths, nosey neighbours or jumped up "officials"

If you try to speak to anyone running any other business, you'll get one of three responses:-

Make an appointment.
Put it in writing
Speak to my solicitor/agent/member of staff responsible for relevant part of business.

You wouldn't turn up at the town hall and expect to see the Chief Exec. would you?

Yes your right you never get to speak to the boss of these face less companies and the pen pushers make up the rules as they go more annoying when none of these muppets have done the job themselves !

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
