Speaking to a man the other day who works in finance, who was saying that there are suggestions that we may be heading for deflation, as money supply hasn’t shrunk like it’s shrinking now for a long time. Cash in a good savings account would be a good call if that were the case would it not?

does that not cover most farmers, everything we do is a gamble!

I look at some of my share buys on there like sheep…. There’s always potential for one with 4 legs in the air!

Most farmers don’t have time to be following stock market all day and day trading! Fair play if you can do both.

I was at a Handelsbanken lunch 6months ago where their investment specialist thought deflation was a real possibility within 2 years …… i think he’s right, they went to hard to fast with rate rises so didn’t leave time for effect to work through

They were too slow and ended too high on rates.

So you done an about turn then Clive? You were Mr Deflation a few months ago. One person has changed your mind just like that? 😇

yes, he made a very good case for the possibility

it takes a while for rate rises to work through an economy as most mortgages are fixed over a term - untill they need to renew the rise makes little difference

we are now approaching a point where many will need to renew and it will hit very hard

car finance / pcp is a similar story

we have already seen deflation in ag - i’m selling wheat at nr half the price i did last year and car prices are dropping rapidly …….. maybe it’s already happening ?

I don’t agree but it’s all gravy. Wheat prices don’t go into inflation baskets, but then there’s lots wrong with these baskets…
