Done the rams on Monday.
March lambing Charollais and dry hoggs all crutched, given Ectofly, then turned back to forget about until the end of the month, post weaning.
Did our dry hoggs (went well), some commercial ewes (mostly ok but some a bit gummy on their bellies and round the edges) and our stock tups on Tuesday....

....the big awkward barstewards weren't as accommodating as @Nithsdale Farmer's were - it's a good job young YB had a gap in his spraying programme and was able to come home and give me a hand for the day (y)

I was going to crack on with the Lincolns today but I had my second covid jab yesterday afternoon and felt like sh!t this morning :poop: (didn't even feel I'd had the first) - the bu66ers will have to wait for tomorrow for their annual wrestling match.

The last hundred commercials and the Herdwick ewes all had a wipe of Dysect round their nether regions before they went away so are not spoiling and will benefit from a bit of heat to get a bit more rise in 'em.

Best money I spend all year is the cash I give the lad who comes and clips my handful of Hampshire Down tups. He always gets £10 more than he asks for and I don't grudge him a penny of it!
My lad’s got some Torwen badgerface ewes which need shearing as well as three Sufftex tups. I’ve started doing them myself now because it doesn’t feel so bad when I throw it on the bonfire!

I shore 170 of my late March lambing mule ewes and wormed/vaccinated there lamb today. They were in the best condition iv known but 4 weeks ago they where terrible! It goes to show what a bit of good grass does. Silage tomorrow so have a day off shearing, 11 days in a row is enough for this part timer!😂

Not much of a part timer if you've clipped 170 and wormed and jabbed 300+ lambs and still had time to post it before 7pm.:notworthy:

First day shearing here. Mule ewes with twins
My excellent lady shearer did 225.
Her assistant couldn’t make it due to problems on their home farm so I sheared on the other stand along with helping pushing up sheep, rolling fleeces etc .
My personal best of…..50 ewes. I’m sure some of you could knock that number out in a lunch break but I am in absolute bits. Feeling like I’ve been hit by a bus.
Hats off to those who do it all Summer- you certainly earn your money!

I'd never be able do 50 in a day , I would be worse than scrap fairplay to you , every penny is well and truly earned contract shearing!

im in no rush this year last year they were shite to do...

not sure how you guys can be arsed doing so many at once, i get fed up and like to do other job in the afternoon, i actually quite enjoy shearing till around mid day then have lunch then something different for the afternoon, you must see sheep in you sleep 😜

Almost 400 done this past week. Ewes have been decent so far. 140 dry hoggs yesterday were excellent going and I really enjoyed doing them right to the end (normally get sick of all the bellies)

I’m going for a 1000 ewe week this week, which is pretty good for me with other work to do. But am suffering a bit because someone crovect there ewes 2 days before I shorn them and has caused a reaction on my arm and legs! ☹️ 220 mule ewes done today where excellent going and a real joy to shear, sheep round here are in good condition now.
