Clipped the boys today, was absolutely no fun at all, not one of them sat, not happy in the heat at all, that bad I’m actually looking forward to the first lot of hoggs tomorrow 😂

There's also an art to getting the catch.

You need to plan a few sheep from the end. Say there's 5 sheep left so ones getting 3 and the other 2 more sheep.
You need to go for the best there's and hopefully no belly to get a blow up so your first in the pen for the last one 😁
On our trailer it's the worst thing you can do drawing the best ewe out of the last pen. We draw from the bottom up, and anyone cheating the system gets a whole heap of grief about it!!

As a rule I grab the sheep closest to the door that facing the right way, regardless of what she looks like. I've no time to go picking unless I'm trying to get the catch where I'll pull out all the stops to get the last sheep

That’s what’s good about a race trailer, you just grab what’s waiting for you, unless someone further up is needing some pushed up.

Did the first lot of 80 hoggs today, earliest I’ve done them and only one you could say was a bit sticky, glad to see it off them with this heat. Had to use bigger warrior combs tho which wasn’t ideal, my older chargers didn’t winter well. Got a vid of me doing the last one, could put it up for the collective to tear to pieces 🤣 but don’t know if you can post vids on here, shame.

Oh don't worry you most definitely can post videos on here...

You've just got to upload them to YouTube first and show the entire world 🤣

I sheared on a race trailer with a kiwi one year up north of Scotland and couldn't work out how he was getting up the cotty necks so quickly until I worked out he was having the pick of the two sheep out the race door by either pushing forward or pulling back the best one and leaving the cotty necks for me.
That was another life lesson in the shearing game 🙄

Actually found it, struggling for grip shearing in the rain, still remember that fat yield brute nearly giving me the slip 😂, a few familiar faces here for anyone that frequents Dingwall

What a place to work. I think I'd have be doing a night shift to avoid the audience.

I have some grazing on a caravan park. I hate having do anything with them Infront of a crowd.

The next year we were there one of the boys put a hat with ‘shearers hydration fund’ written above it for a joke, there was nearly £50 in it by the time we’d finished! 😂

I did a day helping out another guy on a 2 stand trailer, kept having to jump off and push sheep up, kept him fed all day, and he still had the audacity to say that I was the only one he’d clipped with who nearly beat him, he was pretty close to a beating right enough 😂

Depends on the sheep breed but as a general rule we're around the £50 setup and £2.50 per sheep for the smaller bunches. Min charge starts at £80.

99% of our customers generally throw in a few £££ on top for a drink as well.
