Just a question about shearing in lamb ewes - never done it before so want peoples advice.
Poll Dorsets in with ram now (went in 29th April) so coming out soon. These were bought in ewes which had just been Clik'd so i couldnt shear them when they arrived. Covered with Clik till end July so im not too worried about maggots but obviously want to get them sheared off as soon as i can.
When would be safe to shear the ewes? - in terms of their developing embryos. I'll be doing it myself so i can be steady and gentle with them.
Thanks

As long as you handle them gently, the stage of pregnancy has no relevance. Shear them as soon as you think the withdrawal period for Click has expired.

In fact, I would guess that in flocks where the tups are never removed, there will have been thousands of ewes which lamb in late June/early July, soon after shearing.

I had my ewes sheared on the 8th May thinking they had all lambed, and we had a surprise on the 22nd of May, both seem to be fine...
