Just getting onto to making the drafting gates on my race now.
What are the pro's and con's between solid and barred gates?
I assume barred gates are better for keeping the sheep flowing so they can still see the one in front. :unsure:

I don't think it makes a hell of a lot of difference. Some think barred are better, for the reason you state, others (like me) think solid are better as it stops the sheep running down the race from being distracted to the side, so they flow better.

Prattley yards have railed gates, Rappas have solid. I think they run better through the Rappa, but some of that is down to gate position being further forward.

Yes I see what your saying about the distraction, good point made.
I thought you could remove the Rappa boards off the gates, although it required spanners which is not ideal, but like you say if you prefer to use it solid then no need to take them off.
Just a case of which will be easier to make then I reckon.
