All much and muchness from the big companies.
Recently got a shearwell SD440 ( IPhone compatible) only used it a few times but it’s nice to use and loading straight onto the phone is very handy

They arent the same.
good strong stick but... (except the screw in top for batteries removal is a bit fiddly and can break the plastic threads..)
the shearwell stick reader ...will read a tag and show the number n the screen and save it/them and blue tooth them to another device thats it. and arguably expensive for what it is really.
whereas other big company stick readers the likes of trutest and agrident will read the tag(s) and store plus you can input / will record certain data.,so they do much more than the shearwell stick is all he is is a reader full stop.

Shearwell Psion handheld is very good for everything including looking up histories and adding notes. It's £1500+ though.

Okay, so have a strong expectation of grant coming through for a stick reader. Which one should I go for? Run Mac PCs, iphone and android phones and would like it to work with all if possible.

Stick reader though - the £600 grant and not the £1500 one.

Allflex stick and livestock software here. Had a sheep count couple of years ago and his shearwell stick wasn't reading some tags that ours would but maybe just a dodgy one

the Agrident readers - 4 in the range, all allow full management recording as well as just reading tag numbers into tag groups. the 2 yellow trimmed ones, allow recordgin but no loo9kup on the reader. the 2 rd trimmed ones all recording and lookup on the reader where you can scan a sheep and lookup it's history. The Agrident readers come with the bonus of free software to allow management recording. The software is basic, but allows birth recording, tupping. scanning. medicine recording etc.. More comprehensive software is available giving ful performance reportinog for sheep. where to buy? look no further, the lowest cost handheld one is £375. All are in stock. Since sheep recording is done on the reader, not in a connected device, there is no need to link to android or iPhone. However, they all come with Bluetooth and the APR600 handhed and AWR300 stick (the red trimmed ones) come with BT and WIFI.

sorry fogot to add, regarding Mac, there is no problem connecting the Agrident readers to a Mac if the Mac has Parallells installed.

dont know if it's changed or stick readers diffrent but to up date a xr5000 it had to be done on a windows based system
just seemed a bit backwards when say a boss could do a drafting file to a worker. and if he was on a iPhone. he should be able to up load it in to box to draft off stock

It's not correct to call it windows emulation software. It is actually windows running on a Mac, so you have to pay a windows license fee, which I believe is inclued in the subscription price. You can also run MAC OS on a windows PC, although I believe that is illegal as I believe Apple does not license their OS to run on anything else other than a Mac.

Final point re grant. If you have used the SG34 code you can get the Agrident reader for less than £10. The grant pays 40% of standard rate of £1222 and the APR600 at £495 completely meets the specification for SG34. so 40% of £1222 = £488.80 leaving your reader costing you £6.20!

There was an Englishman a Scotsman and an Irishman... They all went to get a tag reader ... The Englishman got his for next to nothing. The others had to pay!

a 2nd Englishman he made profit - he bught an AWR250 reader at £375 using grant code SG34 and made a handsome profit of £113.80, but his grandmother was Irish and his grandfather was Scots. The genes for a wee bargain were too strong for him to resist.

The Welsh spec is EID hand held devices Handheld stock reader with RFID technology for individual reading and recording of animals that is capable of exporting data to a computer based software package for the active monitoring of livestock. standardised price 1,221.67 But I don't see whether it's paid out on actual cost or standardised cost.
