That may be so. But the point was that the rows are too close, not that the tine is a bad idea

New Sim-Tecs are on 187mm per row (16 rows on the 3 meter) as is the big trailed one. Even with my 160mm rows, it is only on loose soil that you get much cultivating effect. Usually it is only about a quarter of the surface area that gets moved

I'm sure you're right, and I won't argue with it. All I know is that when we used one the field looked like we had cultivated it afterwards.
 
Do you chaps use the MANNER software when making calculations re applied muck, compost, digestate etc?

Would be interested to hear any thoughts on the results it gives and any alternative options / views?

I use the farm crap app. But mainly I also do what I think is responsible and right depending on various factors and my intuition.

ie if I think an area of a field needs a little bit more, it gets it.

I find MANNER pretty useful compared to RB209 'book values' for example, it amazes me the difference (and range) you can see when you have these types of materials analysed and 'accuracy' or at least being able to demonstrate it as a paper exercise, is potentially hugely important in NVZ areas.
