Short term ley

We're likely to start lifting wholecrop within the next ten days, which is about 3 weeks earlier than normal due to the very dry weather here over the last few weeks. We'll be sowing hybrid rye in late Sept/early October but it seems a bit of a waste to lave the field bare for 3 months.

Any suggestions for a very quick silage crop which could be lifted in Sept. Never grown Westerwolds but assume its the most likely suggestion? Must be for silage, not interested in grazing it.

Pushing it a bit you be into Jully before it's in
If July is dry seed will sit there and you will end up with an expensive nothing unless you can go in a bit later with the rye
I suppose I would be putting Westerwolds in and leave it in for the winter , but you may have other plans

Let's see the data sheet for your Westerwolds then. I've never had one from any supplier.

I did ask once about the germ on some IRG but never got a reply. 🤔

Piles of seed gone out again this week , perfect weather now for germination,

Shouldn't sow grass in a month with a J in it

Westerwold or a westerwold/Italian blend but the dry conditions aren’t very helpful at the moment despite on another thread someone stating perfect conditions for seeding 🥴
It is here we've had rain almost every day for 10 days but it's not July and I've no idea where the OP farms
Two years on the Trott now I've got caught out seeding In April and had far better results seeding In June ,
But the OP is working to a time scale which is risky

Can yiu put it all in one post
Yes I waz mainy Red Clover thats already up
But then like I said it's been raining off and on for 10 days
Just looked ahead , rain forecast everyday now till the 8th of Jully
My advice , sow to the long range forecast not the Month , the old ways don't work anymore
