Can we start a poll to guess when Clive is going to make some sort of challenge or start an alternative to the NFU? Its fairly obvious all these threads are just trying to gauge who would back him in such a bid.
Oh I see what you mean. The Donald Trump of UK farming. Stranger things have happened. Drain that swamp!

Could I ask you what you do in NZ ? Don't they have a forum you can join ?

Of course you can ask. (y)

No. I'm not a farmer. Just trying to add a little balance to some of the arguments.
It is a farmING forum not a farmERS forum.

I'm sure Clive can make my account disappear if you would like.

I can see sense in NFU having an online polling system that members can log in each month and vote on a variety of issues. Even keeping many of the same issues present each month to see if/opinions in the industry shift. I cannot recall any occasion that the have NFU asked me directly for my views on how they should represent me on certain subjects.

So lets play this out.
OMOV and members want NFU to have nothing to do with RT. Fair enough.
RT board only then have to bribe Blenkiron and his mates with a salary rise and, rather than just being outvoted by the 'consumers', UK Ag doesn't even have a say in RT decisions.

Have you made the effort to tell the NFU your views on certain subjects?

errrr no .. .

NFU instructs all members to leave RT unless there is a premium being received they wish to remain for

It drops its share holdings and any support for the “brand”

They then meet with merchants and mills and say all cereals will be supplied on same basis as imports - ie no FARM level assurance

job done - the nfu have the clout to fix this by Friday if minded to

if the NFU actually stood up and represented their FARMER members I suspect Red Tractor would be out of business within weeks

anyway - right or wrong surely the right thing to do is what their members want

i would like to see a similar referendum on gene editing - these are fundamental issues that change the face of ag for ever, they are worthy of simple democratic vote

Do we now???
The NFU and industry representatives have a seat at the table, potentially voice their opinion, and then get out voted I suspect.
Whether their opinion is the same as the majority of the farming industry I can't say, and they don't even know what the majority of farmers want, probably 50,000 different things.

As I have pointed out on another thread, as an elected NFU representative, I am left to guess what my farmer members want. I have had NO representations made to me. None. Not one.
Members then threaten to leave.
Why have I not had dozens members on the phone or email giving me their opinion? I don't get it.

Farmers work all hours . Come in freezing cold and wet. Last thing they want to do is start emailing and having to think about their problems . Its a shame those who represent them don't have a clue what their problems are

This might be worth suggesting to your superiors....

It seems a sensible idea to guage quickly how member's feel towards certain issues
