In theory NO, but if you have an infestation of grass weeds and slugs that makes it uneconomical to farm a piece of ground then maybe as part of a conversion process to 'righting' some fields. I would not like to see it become common practice as there are many negatives to it also.

Pretty much exactly how I feel about it.

I voted No, because I think soil organic material is so important.

But it should be legal to burn any spoilt un baled straw in winter. Subject to risk assesment.

Another subject is heather burning, this should be done by farmers in the winter to prevent the huge bush fires which are occuring in late spring.

Its a tough one because if it was legal some people would do it who do not need to, yet there are circumstances where it could be used for agronomic reasons. I suppose ban with certain concessions but who decides if its necessary ???

I can't see it ever getting past the greenies.

Yes to stubble burning, subject to a written risk assessment, a maximum % or your area plus informing the fire brigade of exactly where & when.

No way

Why would anyone want to effectively sterilise their soil of life ?

This kind of farming deserves to remain firmly as embarrassing history

There is no need for it - and before someone says black grass I will say just get a rotation !
