Fert £2.50 bale
Mowing £12 acre
Tedding £5 acre
Raking £6.50 acre
Baling £2.65 bale
Wrapping £4.60 bale (inc wrap )
Hauling say average of £3 bale

Work on 10 bales acre = £15.10 bale!

The above is contractors rates so you could if you do the work in house then you could at best get it down to £12 bale and be covering all costs except rent.
you just proved my point, some of those costs are different to mine

I supply the wrap so i know what goes on and its still £5.60 including my wrap. Neighbour gets charged £7 ish and my contractor wants his work but he doesnt want the fallout it would cause which is fair enough. I could get it done cheaper by 30p but im happy with my chaps too
So your man can bale and wrap for £2.80?

You'll never be out of work if you work for free. Although we own a lot of the land and do a lot of the work ourselves, I cost all land in at £100/acre as that's our average and cost all mowing, tedding, raking, baling and hauling at contractors costs for two reasons, firstly it's easier than trying to figure out exactly what it cost with depreciation, some rent, some not, my time or staff time etc and secondly, I know it's costing me less than I cost it in but the saving returns as profit and I'm not into guessing/kidding myself let alone working for free. 2017 silage cost £16/bale and 2018 cost £21...

£3.20. Nothing stirs this forum up like a costing session, it puts people off posting. I aint saying what a contractor should charge or needs to charge , im stating the facts of what im charged. Like it or not, ffs.

Will cost him £1+ bale in net and fuel alone!

Then another £1.50+ in costs to run the wrapper.

He clearly doesn't know how to do costing's correctly.

Does he stack the bales or just flip them off the wrapper??

Everyones costs will be slightly different but most will still be in the range of £12/15 bale at least.

Your kidding yourself if you think otherwise!
now you have lost me my costs came to more than that and they are the costs for that field and I said some would be more some less, so again you proved my point

I suspect you are quite correct but he/she could go round doing the job for nothing if they wanted to

Just drops them in the field. I havent a clue what net costs or how many bales a roll does tbh and thats his worry not mine. As for wrapping i cant see how you cost just putting the wrap on at £1.50+. My contractors have farms too so perhaps that helps them discount work.

Its a minefield. I have always said i will post prices, costs of work ,animals and fodder as i see and hear it day to day. One of the reasons i joined the forum was because it made my blood boil with some of the nonsense price talking BS i used to read.
the reason it makes me laugh is that someone will put a price on and someone else will as good as say they are lying
