Nick Champion got a Fodder sale shortly . He is asking vendors to be 'realistic' with their reserves this yr .
I bet it will be awash with silage but probably too far for you . I was going to put some in the sale I've got stacked in Rotherwas but I'm going to hang on till Brightwells sale I think .
No quite the opposite ,Tenbury is closer to where
our cattle are .Thanks I will keep an eye out .
More of an insurance policy against dear fertiliser
which hasn't arrived yet.

Not in the short term surly ,
They've had a lot of rain up North now.
Our ground has been the driest for years but
at this time of year wont take too many days
of heavy rain before we have to bring the cattle in .
Plenty of fodder about at the moment but if we have
a hard winter combined with a reluctance by many to buy fertiliser
at £6-700t I would gamble that we're closer to the bottom of
the trade than the top.

Fag packet calculations but

buy in silage/hay £20 a bale, less £10 making costs which you would had to pay to make your own, cost to you £10 bale.

£600/ton fert therefore buys 60 bales. Ton of fert would probably grow you nearly that many extra bales and you would know the quality. Not a lot in it.

Edit And you would still be cutting your own ground

Brought the November -January calvers in this evening. Not poaching yet but given heavy rain tomorrow so would be making a mess by Sunday. Better inside now. Will try and keep the weaned spring calvers out until early December. But they are on 2 round bales hay and a square of barley straw every 2 days now
