what distance is it travellinganyone going to be brave enough to put up a price for straw this season? we are currently having last years in, at roughly £80 tonne delivered, we think that's about right, but new crop price ?
Jesus wept only way that barn will get emptied is with a fire then!!80 miles, straw off salsbury plain goes down to devon/cornwall, our supplier didn't rip us of last year, so if it is a bit dearer, we don't mind, as quality is good, just really need a clue going forward,
mind you, there is a barnful of straw next door, the price wasn't high enough last year, so he's kept it for this year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no, he's given up smoking, I've also known put stuff in the scrap bin, because no one would pay what he thought it was worth, 4 years ago I offered him £2500 for a straw blower, strong money, but I knew it had been looked after, no ,£4000, he put it in a sale a year later made £820. tried to sell a keenan, old but good, £3500 he wanted, made £180 at the same sale. takes all sorts.
What a difference a year makes, neighbour had 7 silage bales to acre in last years drought from a p.pasture crop, 11 today! Second cuts are also cropping near enough as much as 1st cuts too.
I must remember you when I’ve Haylage to sell.Just been sat down reading the last few pages of this thread.
I think I’ve costed my first cut to £22 a bale for what will hopefully be 800 bales of horse quality haylage. We’re lucky we’re in a good area and have a good customer base. We use about 500 rounds ourself for our own horses and usually buy in around 1500 - 2000 hay and haylage.
Will be hoping for 400 bales of second cut if we can get first off in the next 3 weeks but not overly optimistic!
neither, just made sure he knew that I knew, comment. win some lose some, he's got a good forager in a shed, been there 10 yrs, - no-one will offer him what he thinks its worth, its now 10 yrs olderdid you buy or bid up ?
Great isnt it, been offered a hundred silage bales at £12 off the field already.Trouble is wont be worth f,all next winter now, prob cheaper to buy it in .I have made enough for next winter of half the acreage this year , but will have to cut the rest at some point , try and make small bale hay i suppose and sell it out the field .
I’m sure 9 years in 10 I’d be better off just buying in silage round here.Great isnt it, been offered a hundred silage bales at £12 off the field already.
Last two winters would of broken anybody buying in all there forage but over the last ten years it would of evened out.I’m sure 9 years in 10 I’d be better off just buying in silage round here.
It’s just a year like last that would be a nightmare.
Trouble is a lot come with free docks
