Sinconil blocking sprayer

Soaking helps but is not critical. If you're leaving them in the machine I run the pump for a while with all the purge & rinse systems going. For treating the sprayer itself the concentration of the cleaners is more important than the volume. Obviously you're going to overwhelm it if you try and clean a massive machine with 100 litres of mix. I have a 6000 litre sprayer with 36m booms that do liquid N, so have a pig pipe capacity. 500 litres of mix normally shifts most things.

As above, 2 of the very best cleaning solutions are liquid fertiliser and glyphosate. Glyphosate started life as a cleaner - the herbicide properties were only discovered later.

Thanks Brisel our sprayer is a 2000 liter one so I thought I would soak filters first in t&e then put them back on,one 500gramme Tin of t&e in 500 liters of water ,run sprayer as you said then spray out to clean jets

I always got told that liquid fert has the potential to line the inside of the tank potentially covering and locking in any residue of previous herbicides but given the amount of operators that swear by it I must have been told wrong.

used quite a lot of CTL in last couple of weeks without issue. tonight big issue. sprayer has been sat over the weekend with Sinconil/ Teb in tank. pipe at base of tank leading to pump completely blocked solid. only found out after filling to 3600 litres with water and more chem as water inlet pipe to pump is clear. so what to do with full tank and no outlet. simples. suction pipe from water inlet back into top of tank. sprayed it out.
so which of these causes the main tank outlet at the base to become blocked

1. repeated use of CTL (any brand) and leaving for 1-7 days, or
2. 1 can of sinconil
3. previous to Sinconil, used Amistar, Alto elite, Opte-Man
4. Previous to that used CTL/ teb/ Topik
5. previous to that used Epic/CTL

I'm having problems with my Knight but not as severe as that. I haven't used any of the same brands as you but I blame the CTL. It blocks the flow meter on mine. I used De Sangosse T + E cleaner which was great but I can't get hold of that now. Other brands seem to be not much good. I have used a lot of Epsotop too which I think makes it worse. I always used to leave a bit of spray in my old sprayer and that never blocked but this one is a bugger. I like your nifty idea for getting rid of chem. How are you clearing the blockage now?

I've been using sinconil past week and had no problems at all. Run a few hundred litres of clean water through it each night when finished.

Cleaned out all filters yesterday and no residue of CTL in them.

Not quite. Monsanto had large reserves of high quality phosphate which it used for inclusion in detergents, when phosphates were banned for this purpose they set one of their chemists on to exploring the possibility of using it as a growth inhibitor. Glyphosphate was the second compound he tested and it was available as a herbicide within 4 years of its discovery.
