What is wrong with blocks?

Not the same strength , blocks are 7n concrete will be 35n , no way of putting reinforcement into blocks , to strengthen walls from ground pushing them in , you could use concrete panels ,

You can you put steel rods through blocks and fill them with concrete.

The hollow block system like master block , have used it a few times , it's not fast , or cheap , and it's not easy to be sure that the concrete has actually got full coverage in the blocks as you can't vibrate the concrete , and are relying on the wet concrete filling all the voids , also difficult to get the wet concrete poured in at the top

It was not long ago that blocks was all their was ! i served my time laying blocks.

has anyone done a tank with pre cast panels, they look the cheapest and fastest way to me? and possibly the strongest?
preferably normal ones to L panels
would you need 6" and double stressed? as soil is 90% of force coming inwards and slurry pushing outwards a smaller force, might not even need loading for this as the soil would more than equal this?

have seen concrete H shaped columns to slot panels in if bothered about slurry rusting steel? as panel would want to be on outside of steelwork?

Our pre cast ones are usually 3m x 36m and are built with U channels with a slat on the top like these.

Or we have one tank thats 24 x 24 ish and done with panels and then columns and beans for the slats

Im sure solway are 2.5m deep max but might be worth asking them.

I know of some tanks built with steel and panels, exactly how they're done i'm not sure about though.

Do you mean the corners? Can make a concrete corner post.

Have seen it done with steel H beams but concrete was cast around the exposed face of the steel beam after the panels were fitted.

Still a few block tanks built round here yet. Best put the shed up first though to add a bit of cover. EA would have quite a dim view on them.

Not with pillars unless you have installed that air bubbler system.

Internal walls are 10 times better than pillars. Easier to mix with a pump.

I do agree that a tank should only be shuttered.

Nonsense, lot of things you can do with blocks to add reinforcement, I've yet to see a block built tank fail

Yes lots but not an economic way to do a 3m deep tank

Great tidy job, just wish man that did the tank, could have done the shed. Still waiting to get it finished, Tank done in a week.

I don't doubt shuttering is more cost effective nowadays, but, my point still stands that a block built tank works 100%
