Slurry Lagoon Filling With Water

We have a serious issue in that our slurry lagoon appears to be taking in water at an extraordinary rate (may cubic meters per day) due to a underwater spring feeding into it. Has anyone experienced anything similar who would like to share how they overcame the problem.

What depth are you at where the water is entering the lagoon ? and what construction is she ?.
We had a similar issue on a job we were brought in to sort,
Several options we explored (depending on the depth of the seepage)
Identify the source and the depth of the water seep, we utilised bore holes and borehole radar to give us an idea of the ground conditions below.
Install interlocking sheet piles in a perimeter of the source and driven to a depth deeper than the sump of the lagoon.
We would then have begun excavating down to the water source or until the water met us.
We would then have observed the water level if the water is able to continue rising up the inside of the cofferdam we would have installed vertical pipework and backfilled with drainage pebble to outfall at surface level is required we would have installed .
For a deeper source we also looked at drilling to the spring source but harder to pinpoint the source without seeing it.
If required a pump would have been specified to lift the water to outfall.
For that job because of ground conditions and also the owner not wanting the financial outlay, it was agreed gaining some clean water into the lagoon was better than losing slurry out of it, so a dirty water rain gun system was installed to keep the lagoon level down. But he was in a slightly less rainfall area than we are used to.

If your lagoon is on level land and is below ground you can't do a lot bar pumping out regularly.Lagoon on a slope or above ground you can install a liner above stone lateral drains to intercept ground/spring water.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
