Softwood price

I’ve got a chance of a couple of loads of pallet wood which is (very) near to me quoted £76 per tonne delivered. It’s more than the last lot of hardwood I got. Great thing about pallet wood is the processor loves it can get loads done in a relatively short time.

Latest prices I got given if selling woodland were
£98/t green sawlog
75/t oversized sawlog
£71/t pallet wood
48/t Biomass

That was a month ago. I think prices may have gone up since then so £76t for pallet wood delivered in is probably a pretty good price.

Problem is no one will pay more for softwood logs than hardwood logs .
I’ve shifted probably 35 -40 tons of softwood this winter out of 50 . Probably due to the fact there’s very little seasoned hardwood about.

Pretty big and straight.
How much is good straight hard woods like oak ?

Straightish middling oak -framing/beams not planking- would be trading at mebbe £110-130/t roadside here. Clean milling oak more like £280-320

Elm clean enough to mill, and still properly sound, similar money I'd have thought.
(mind, elm for firing will never be popular!)

Excuse my ignorance but why is elm not popular for burning?

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
