You maybe confusing coal as 'fossil fuel ' as gas is in that category.
Solar & wind power sound great & relatively cheap except for one small problem, we have to pay all the other power stations to be on standby whilst solar & wind are producing just in case the sun goes in & the wind drops so we are in effect paying for our energy twice over!!!

So that’s why it’s so expensive!! 🤣

why, don't we as a country retro fit energy efficient adaptions to our existing housing stock to cope with both heat and cold, and make sure all new houses are built to these standards. Quick Google and some of the major house builders said, regulations don't compel us to!
Just an efficient panel or two to warm water would help. Plug that into heating or cooling with the right adapters, couldn't it? Builders don't even pitch roofs in new build developments towards the sun.

Successive Governments did not invest in infrastructure. A tough call at the time, given the future political agenda to move away from fossil fuels.

Renewables are great, but cost us all a packet, the future is nuclear, however we have to wait until they are built and operating.

Renewables are a stop-gap, as much of our generating infrastructure is now redundant.

You see no one can support that because what you have said there is NOT scientifically correct. You're trying to make something that is reasonably understandable into something simple when it isn't that simple. You can't take on the likes of the CCC with that, they will simply not take you seriously.

Just hold on a moment.

The CCC have opted for a position whereby Methane is kept in the environment forever.

That position is one of a complete idiot.

IMHO the CCC are a bunch of @ssholes AND they know it AND they don't care AND they know nobody can do anything about it.

So in other words, why the hell is anyone bothered about the CCC ? They'll do what they want regardless of the facts.

I support @delilah in this regard, if they bleat about facts then point out if they can create a fairy story then so can we.

The science says we should all go vegan. The science says whatever somebody wants it to say.

I'm more interested in how we deliver our message to the public. Because that, over and above the science, is what the Joe Stanley article in the OP is about.

Finally !

Been saying this for YEARS.

Get a bloke in a white coat to write shyte down, hey presto "Science".

IMHO the CCC is little more than a bag of nuts mkaing a case for a minority to get VERY rich based on propaganda.

Follow the tw4tter feed and they show a graph trying to display carbon output from various ag products. Tofu is low down on the list with the notation I posted.
"They"? Sorry, I generally keep away from Twatter. It’s got to be a very good reason for me to look at it. It’s just a dreadful place.

Whilst I share your utter contempt for the CCC, and have said so many times on here, there is actually no reason to lie or make stuff up. The science actually indicates that livestock aren’t the problem. As to why anyone should be bothered about the CCC, it’s because they are supposed to be the independent body that advises Parliament and the Govt.

It would be very hard to say that Methane is the problem - yet that is exactly what the CCC and COP26 chose to do.

I cannot take them seriously.

The only way to escape political decisions is to mock, deride and belittle the process. You are correct, the CCC is shyte.

This is a decent debate, and the focus should not be lost.

However farming (production) is only part of the food chain emissions story, which needs to be assessed holistically. At the moment a large % of the food we produce is chucked in the bin for all sorts of reasons, this contributes to the total emissions of the food chain.

"Not my fault " we are all saying, however that is the way things are calculated so it's only right and fair we are provided with information that lets us know with a degree of accuracy of what, when, who, where and how.
You're correct in emphasizing the holistic view of food chain emissions. While farming contributes significantly, the impact of food waste is also crucial. A large portion of produced food is discarded, adding to total emissions. Thus, it's vital for consumers to receive accurate information about their food's environmental impact, including production, consumption, and waste stages.
