Has anyone been playing Alan Wake 2? The original, 13 years ago was what got me back into game dabbling (but I’m very selective- last game I properly played was RDR2 5 years ago).

It’s crazy just how meta and self-referential the game can be for those that know a bit of the developer (Remedy)’s history-for example:

I’m not far into the game- where we first meet the titular character:
IMG_8505.jpeg

Right:Alan Wake. He’s a writer of novels featuring hardboiled NY detective Alex Casey but he’s been lost for the past 13 years trapped in a lake (background) that isn’t a lake.
Left: new character Saga. (Saga.. Books geddit?)
Middle (and here it gets really interesting) Alex Casey- hardboiled NY FBI agent (by coincidence). The character is played by Sam Lake; Remedy’s writer and creative director. He’s often put himself into the games- notably as the title character in early IP Max Payne (a hardboiled NY detective…). I think they sold the IP to Rockstar Games, hence the change to Alex Casey to sidestep any nasty copyright issues.
Finally, Sam Lake’s name isn’t really Sam Lake:
Another Lake that isn’t a lake…

Anyway- thoroughly enjoying playing. The graphics are sumptuous and the story well thought out. Much more of a horror than the original, which was fairly bloodless. Beautiful.
