Spot Spraying

Usually when a contractor does spraying he is told what rate of chemicals to use from (an agronomist's) recommendation. The contractor doesn't decide for himself how much he is going to put on.

So the contractor goes on said courses in order to be able to legally spray, then in your opinion he does not need to know how to calculate the dose rates which is written on the label, whereupon he simply believes what Agronomist states without checking the math to ensure no mistake in the calculations, then proceeds to spray willy nilly :scratchhead:

If a contractor cannot work out dose rates - he should not be doing the job imho, period!

A lot of smart arses on this thread! Just do what I do, a good few glugs. Docks seem to have died and the fish still seem to alive. Everyones a winner!

And that ^^^ is why it is becoming so bloody restrictive in everything we do, more paperwork, more restrictions on use etc. I suppose your on the side that support free use of antibiotics too

There will be many dose rates that will be correct, depends on many factors, all will be within the guidelines on the label, all the contractor has to do from a legal/ responsible point is to not exceed the maximum dose

This is spot spraying we are talking about, everyone needs to just calm the f**k down and answer the mans question! Sometimes in life common sense should prevail. This is one of those times. I don't use antibiotics on Docks.

I think that meekers is having a naughty laugh.

I dislike threads such as this. If people are wanting to spread serious chemicals around the countryside then they should take it upon themselves to get appropriate training. That way, they will understand the procedures and can do it properly and safely.

Personally I sit on the other side of the fence and support responsible contractors when I chose them for a job - because to me, if a contractor is in business to spray pesticides and is therefore used to do a job, he /she should be competent enough to be able to calculate doses him / herself - to know if they are potentially over dosing due to using all the chemical in a smaller area than is stipulated.

Alarm bells also ring for me when a contractor is asking the customer to find out dose rates, as the labels give you the information needed, and not everyone has an agronmist - and personally I would ensure the person spraying knows how to understand this information if I were an agronomist giving advice on pesticide mixes.

I didn't say the contractor doesn't need to know how to work out doses. They will have been on the courses and will know how to. In this case the contractor will have to check the label and sort it out because the OP has no idea and seems not to have consulted an advisor for a dose rate.
