Spray license

You will personally require PA1 and PA2:

You will also need an NSTS inspection on your sprayer:

You should also be a member of the NROSO:

Doing all the above would be the gold plated approach.

You don’t have to be a member of that daft NROSO scheme unless you are farm assured for combinables, thankfully.

Grandad did the spraying, obviously he was under the grandfather scheme. After he died we had contractors to do it as we only had a small sprayer on a 575 and neither me nor dad know anything about the spray licenses. What is involved in getting the correct licenses and MOT?

Whereabouts do you farm? If you have a Welsh holding number you can currently get 80% funding on the PA training.

Not sure if similar is available elsewhere, but doubt it as 15% of BPS wasn’t held back to pay for such things elsewhere.

I've done my sprayer training for handling, knapsack and boom sprayer. It is not a walk in the park but it is not difficult if you take a course, listen, revise and practise. Spray calculation sheets are usually given out on the course and are basically self explanatory. It is all the peripheral stuff, labels, legal, P.P.E, settings, servicing etc where you can get tripped up.
My examiner was pretty hard but he did cement a of lot of the stuff in my head.

How the hell we managed to grow food without licences and certificates for 4000 years amazes me.
Has UK Agriculture turned woke ?. Discuss.

Its a good point but the OP doesn't seem to have the faintest idea about sprays or spraying, so is it really a good idea for them to just have at it?
Perhaps a bit of education in the form of a pa1 and 2 test would help them?

I'm with Kidds on this, if you're in the job you should be aware of this.

Speak to a training company as a minimum, that way you'll have the right insights as to what you're supposed to know, be certified for and do.

Also, get the kettle on and Google PA1, PA2 and PA6 as well as "sprayer test certificate" and settle down for a riveting (but educational) read!

Well that's why I'm trying to make myself aware of it...

Is the op a " junior" possibly ?
Why is the 12 m size no good for the arable?
Talk about farm assurance?
He don't say if in or our with it?
As these threads go on things get twisted?
Ring local ag College or ag training for PA1 certificate for handling/storage/label understanding/legislation /protective equipment /records etc etc.
PA2 certificate for tractor/sprayer use,calibration,application, do's ,don'ts , cleaning etc etc
Other PA parts for knapsack, atomisers etc.
Your location may help for as stated funded courses ,farming connect if in Wales , contractors or other helpful groups etc for you.
Don't just have a go as can be costly and dangerous to your health if not certain what your up too.

If you haven't already got the Roundup, you probably won't be getting any, maybe not in the spring either.
This is the gist of a conversation with agronomist today.

Good on ya. Get your Pa1 and 2 done, there's probably some more tickets too, but I don't live there any more so don't keep up.
Just a bit surprised that as farmers you or your dad don't know about it.
Get trained before you start messing with chemicals.
