Spring beans or spring oats

Had 110ha destined for winter beans but seed delivery way behind when we think it’s optimal for decent zero till winter beans to be drilled.
Shall I order some spring bean seed or shall I plant spring oats, I’ve got the nitrogen in the shed and farm saved seed. I am erring towards the oats although this will take me up to about 300ha of them.

You probably realise this already, but harvest date would be my concern in the S Beans. Might slow down the wheat going in behind

Spring beans usually end of August beginning of setember around here.
I was more trying to gauge how many beans are in the ground as I suspect they are going to be worth bugger all as many have piled into them because of fert price.

When we grew beans the springs were often earlier to harvest than the winters .
Can’t you just plant the winters in the spring anyway, if you have the seed

Oats plenty of beans about and their price per to not enough unless you need a good break before wheat

That’s basically what I’m thinking, and I’m not convinced beans will perform particularly well on this land

Only as a soil improver, we will stripped header them.

Only from what I've read on here , but doesn't oat stubble have a negative impact on emerging wheat seeds and their establishment when its DD

Oat straw chopped is absolute filth. I'd be interested to see if leaving it stood was a better option.

Oats always give a reliable margin, beans always seem to be one way or the other.

You are very lucky. I would still go beans, spread harvest and the must wonderful tilth to drill into and no worries about slugs.

I presume you mean rotation? I would think not. It is flies on the wing that lay their eggs in the oats, rather than a build up of population in that particular field.

Dd ww here always does well after spring oats, we do cut the oats low and bale the straw as we have a good market for it, ours went pretty flat this time but not seen any issue where we left a bit, so far
