Spring beans or spring oats

It did about .6/acre. It set our combine on fire so a neighbour ended up doing it with a straw walker. Blackgrass control was poor. Won’t be growing it again I would rather do stewardship however a mix of osr, oats and beans are enough for our break crops.

Thank you for experience and comment. I was involved in crop on two farms total about 130 hectares. Blackgrass was OK but we had selected fields that we categorise as reasonable for Slender Foxtail! Avadex pre em and Clethodim post em. Callisto pre em. Some metsulfuron in some fields in spring for Poppy. Bit of fungicide. So not a cheap or easy care crop!? Looks good at the moment (but then it did this time last year). So we shall see. I recall when we grew it in the mid 90s. It fizzled out that time!!

It just seems to hit and miss for me. If you do it on a contract with premium crops then it’s even more expensive.

The metsulfuron plus late frosts completely knackered mine. :(

I have to say, I don’t see the point in winter linseed, especially on heavy land. It’s terrible blackgrass control and doesn’t yield as well as spring linseed. Also the seed is twice the price even though you only need about half the seed rate…🤔funny that!
