Spring seed price

Was at a frontier meeting on Monday night and they showed a graph of spring seed sales for the last few years and the 2019/20 winter seed sales were high each week but never topped 500 ton for any one week, last week they took 4000 ton of orders in the one week, less seed crops, and not good yields and poor harvesting conditions it’s a perfect storm because of these storms!

No Spring wheat available here its already sold out. Spring Barley is 800 euros a T plus for unknown varieties and Spring Oats are 1250 euros a T if you can find any but who would at that price. Its mad.

How was autumn sowing this year compared to normal in your area?

In my immediate area not much has been drilled. Quite a bit of grain maize is still not cut. I have sunflowers still to combine but have at least got some cereals in after oilseed rape and beans (which are minority crops here). Most people who have crops still out there will just be happy to finish combining by Christmas.

Nationally according to the french press around a quarter of french cereal farmers have yet to drill any cereals at all.

What is your normal sowing window? I assume you can successfully sow further into the winter than we can?
