Grown mulika and cachice list year and haven't seen any ergot in any come to think of it not in the last few years either .
Cachice seems to have done better than mulika this year but watch out for yellow rust in it .
Cachice is group 2 milling
Mulika is group 1 milling
Down here Mulika is a bit harder to find a home . Ranks when was at Southampton didn't really want it .
So blended it with relay and ranks at Andover couldn't get enough .
Funny old thing really but it is what we are up against dealing with modern day Dick Turpins.

No difference between varieties to my knowledge, it is nearly always about timing.. Timing your spring wheat comes into flower and timing of when the grass weeds are chucking spores from infected seed heads. Some years are worse than others just because the timing coincides badly..

Obviously the background level of ergot sclerotia in the soil has some affect too..

Had some kws Chilam this year, it was excellent, easy to cut and thrash unlike others and the sample was fantastic. I am hoping we have some more next year
