Dawsum looking a bit weak strawed despite 2x moddus/ccc and t2 chlormephon. One day I’ll get it right. Mid October drilled @180kg/ha.
Jebus that crop is thick and angry looking.

From being nowhere all through winter (compared to the Extase in the same field), I'm very surprised with the ear counts in Dawsum.

Starting with Extase at one end of the field (per m2) samples were 590, 650, 640, 530 (rough area) 640, 760.
Then in the Dawsum 650, 760, 910, 830. Seed rates maybe a tad high in hindsight, for a variety that tillers and starts to fly at stem extension.

The ears are longer in Extase and the grain set is good. Dawsum ears are 2/3rds the length, and grain set not as good; sown on the same day but about 2 weeks behind in development
The weigh bridge will be the judge.

Grazed wheats trials holding on comparatively better than the ungrazed. Way more green area left, probably going to be fit a day or 2 later than the ungrazed sections. Craft winter barley probably 7-10 days away from being properly fit

Winter barley looks like it could do ok, spring barley looks like I’ll get the seed back and possibly the fert it’s about 2ft tall. Wheat looking ok but won’t break any records. Need sun now and the next 7 day look cool and showery.

What variety of winter barley. Clearly exceptional management to get heads like that. 👍
I think it’s Orwell but it might be tardis. More luck I’d say I can normally grow big heads but they tend to drop on the floor before the rest is ready. I don’t normally spray any cereals off but may be I should.

And even thos generally have a smattering of Septoria or something that has destroyed the leaf. Look torrid. Ears not weighing much when swaying in then wind.
Given the ££££ and mess made getting the early gear on, it's very disappointing. If you see the stuff with no T1 and t0, you'd be super sad. And that had no n until may.

There's a long way to go for grain fill and I'm toying with the idea of going through it again...
