Driving around today, seen:

Some solid looking wheats,
Some iffy looking wheats,
Blackgrass,
Mostly poor spring barley with yellow wet bits,
Peas not enjoying the cold and wind,
Beans that look to have been touched by something recently with very yellow edges,
Lots of what I thought was barley is actually rye!

Mascani winter oats. I hadn’t been to look at them for a couple of weeks but like everything else the rain has transformed them.

I was seriously considering ripping this field up back in February

Both are jackal and really suffered with the wet winter! However I’m kind of glad I didn’t now as they aren’t looking to bad. They’ll never be a 5 ton crop but with current prices and I’m keeping the inputs cheap should come out ok.

One crop that does seem to be enjoying this wet spell is the canary seed. Best I’ve seen it emerge in the past two years!

Please don't say this, had a field on watch list, I wanted to give it another week and partner on contract land ripped it up :(

I have a feeling from to many years with arable that the crops are looking ok at this time of the year that they now need sunshine and warmth. What worries me is when if it goes from this weather pattern to a heatwave that they will go through such fast growth stages it may affect harvest results

Made the decision to bang a good dose of N on it and see what happens as it’s not the sort of of land you want to be pulling up in the spring! Up until a couple of weeks ago I didn’t even want to look at it let alone walk through it. Feeling much happier about it now though.
