It is supposed to help bind the chemical to the soil to keep a more concentrated layer of active near the soil surface for longer.

I've never used it with a pre em, it may be worth trying a bit with and a bit without to see for next time but I wouldn't get too hung up about it. How much extra would it add cost wise?
