What I wrote earlier is the case; member states may legislate in any way they choose, providing it complies with the four arms of EU law.for example, Austria had its own Glyphosate ban (I don’t know if it still does or not), so going it’s own way. I suppose you are saying that Belgium can’t legalise murder, whilst in the EU?
As far as I am aware, the taxes I pay here are set in France, during those days of ridiculous discussions, folk from the Uk were saying all taxes were set by Brussels. Im sure they are wrong, if only that I am sure Brussels couldn’t make anything so complicated.
For obvious reasons, VAT is a special case in the EU; other taxes that don't go against EU laws are fine, anything is really unless it goes against EU law, in which case EU law takes precedence over national.
