How do you know plenty aren’t on anti-depressants? And, given suicide rates in our industry, perhaps more should seek help?🤷‍♂️

Spot on
That's possibly the biggest issue in farming is the loneliness and having no one to unburden to.
One of the main reasons why I still get up and push slurry in a morning so I can chat with son and talk things through
Times are tough and whilst there is no doubt that in the main the public support us, the drip drip of veganism (with the corporate bandwagon jumping) and other issues does peck the head

Mind you, the sun might come out again ... if we're lucky

I just expect things to go badly wrong so if anything goes right it’s really pleasing.

Take yesterday, horrendous weather, picked up some dead lambs however not as bad as it could have been. Struggled to make space for more sets of lambed ewes but the positive is we are not yet in full flow.

To top it off the only female feral cat we have to produce kittens must have decided the space between the fan on the radiator was warm. I start it up and there’s fluff flying and a near dead cat spat out on the floor!

Oh well!

2012 was ‘the year from hell’ in this area, it just peed it down from April to the following May, with a merciful break in August for harvest.

When the combine broke in October, and when it was too pee wet through to do anything, Mrs PSQ dragged me away for a few days to London, and it saved my sanity. 4 days away from the farm and its problems and I felt completely refreshed. Finished harvest on bonfire night (first and last year of spring beans) and mauled some late wheat in that would have been saved by a half decent spring, which turned out to be atrocious.

Point being, if it’s getting you down and there’s nothing doing in the forecast, pull the pin and get away. Go somewhere nice for a break, build yourself up for a few days, and recharge the batteries. Staying put just to stare at the wet ground and the long term forecast for another week won’t change a thing.
In 1987 we had another terrible summer and harvest
Duals on combine again and hay bale's still out in October.
Sent all the wheat seed back.
I finished contract combining on nov 5th with frosted barley, drove the combine into the shed and got on a plane to oz
And i wasnt coming back.

This week has been wall to wall rain and grey. After months of rinse and repeat.
This morning? Blue sky and a bright round yellow thing beaming down on us.

Can't say how long it'll last, but enjoy it while it's there.

Venting on here and at various friends is my antidepressant.
We had an RPA inspection of cattle ear tags last week and I think she was glad to get away!
I'm about at the stage of ignoring the woke agenda driven rules.
I said to mum that I haven't been arrested, yet. I wouldn't object to changing that for the right reasons.
So angry.
Yes probably my therepy too ranting on here sorry guys

Forecast a nice day here tomorrow if it’s right of course before turning wet again and then the good news a half decent day is forecast for the 11th April 🤦🏻

All very well to rant and rave thinking you’re the big man doing it and it’s ok as it’s ’getting Things off my chest’ or ‘it’s good for my mental health’ (the modern catch all term to excuse all kinds of behaviour).

Reality is someone is on the end of that ranting. It ain’t much good for them.
Anyone who spends time screaming and shouting at people is just a bit of a twit really.

Trouble with the term "mental health" is that it is now being used as the hook to hang everyone's problem on.
That recent report said that something like 25% of people aged 18-24 (ie at the start of prime working life) are "off work" with mental issues - apparently this includes shyness. Stress is the biggest one cited but I do wonder what they stress about. Lack of "likes" perhaps??

I would strongly suggest that if most of those parked their screens & SM accounts they would miraculously find that life was so much better.

Doctors surgery has a sign up about abuse of staff, I wonder why no one clicks that abuse of staff is because of the appalling service we receive from a myriad of organisations, maybe the answer isn't to give messages about abuse of staff, rather it is to provide the type of service that is appropriate (and empower people rather than treat them like imbeciles and infantilise them).
I actually wonder if it is a policy to manage demand in GP practices by not having enough people to answer the phones. I am becoming quite ill because not because I can’t see a doctor, but because I can’t even speak to anyone at the surgery.

It’s become an industry.

Through most human history adults would have had to contend with losing multiple children at a young age, possibly losing a spouse early in marriage, all while living in grinding poverty in overcrowded accommodation with the ever present threat of infectious disease and starvation. Anyone who tells you we have it hard now is talking utter bollicks.

I would differentiate between the general rants on this thread which are not personally aimed at anyone and probably helpful, to those abusive ones that are unacceptable.

Nothing much to worry about as I have it on good authority that the sun will shine in June, that is unless the BBC go & forecast a barbecue summer.

Rang to pay for my farm assurance yesterday (another £330 wasted). Greeted by an automated message, no thank you for calling or anything pleasant.

First bit of message ‘if you subject any members of our staff to any abuse you will liable to suspensension from our scheme’, then the various options 😳😳
Perhaps every one of us should call and hurl our views of RT at them.

A family member is a manager in "the big organisation ".
Whenever she has cause to speak to an employee about their performance, ( or lack off ) they take a couple of weeks off work claiming stress. - on full pay FFS
