A professional what in your mind ?You're talking to yourself . I'm a professional , you're an interferring busybody .
A professional what in your mind ?
This must be the course you taken then ..See , this is where you talk bollox , I can go on a 3 day course and suddenly I'm an expert ,
This must be the course you taken then ..
Drystone walling
Quite possible a 2 day course you could learn as much as you needed to know to install a fireplace in less than 2 hours. Most people would be installing in an existing chimney so the majority of the hard work has already been done.
I wouldn't stick a wood burner up a chimney , flexi liner costs nowt .
But you would drop the flexi liner down the chimney you would not have to make the chimney.thats why a stove is so easy to put in nowadays.
You sound arrogant , stupid and dangerous , the sort who kills his family with CO poisoning .
Theres a lot more to it than connecting the flue and hoping for the best, most of the regs are not about air pollution but to ensure the occupants dont die of CO poisoning .comparing it with dry stone walling is as ridiculous as comparing it with milking cows.
To do the job safely you need to know what flue angles can be used, diameter, spillage , airation, ventilation ,distances from combustible material , hearth sizes, CO detector placement etc.
IIRC the only way you can legally get around not using Hetas is to have the building inspectorate sign it off, this costs more than paying a Hetas engineer to sign it off and most won't if they don't install the stove.
"Each year, about 50 people die in the UK from CO poisoning"
CO Poisoning
Testing
Never heard of anyone getting CO poisoning from a wood stove, it’s usually badly installed gas heaters.
Firstly all solid fuel stoves have to be CE approved by law consequently they are built to a reasonable standard , admittedly some better than others , secondly its illegal to DIY install a solid fuel stove, your house insurance would be invalid if it was linked to a claim.HETAS
Whilst Town & Country stoves are a quality product they cost around 3 time that of Machine mart and many other brands.
It is Not illegal to install your own stove - you are talking shite - simple - nothing more nothing less.
Your original post said:It is without planning / building authority or HETAS signing off , I dont expect you to believe me so call your local planning / building officer/inspector...the you`ll see what an ignorant faukwit you are ,I guess very village has to have one.
It boils down to doing it two ways of doing it .
Alternatively join the "I know best mob" like the farmer who just got 4.5 years jail or the other one who was fined £32k , your choice.
- Install it yourself BUT you have to involve your local planner/building inspector - expensive -often several visits.
- Use a HETAS engineer , they are the only ones who can sign it off other than your local planner/building inspector .not quite as expensive
Which is clearly wrong, your latest statement is more accurate in that it is a breach of building regulations unless either a HETAS engineer or local authority sign it off. It is not disputed that Building Control need to be notified/sign it off.illegal to DIY install a solid fuel stove

As a side note, would you trust a HETAS approved engineer who on installing a replacement fireplace repaired cracked side cheeks with builders putty & failed to recommend having a CO monitor in the room? Also made no mention of ventilation!
Pedantism, yes you can fit one yourself BUT if you dont get it signed off its illegal which is what a few implied they were doing , as for the HETAS fitter who made all those mistakes he should be reported to HSE and HETAS , not fitting a CO alarm or an air brick on stoves over 5kw is verbotten, IIRC all new builds have to have airbricks regardless of KW output.
Suicide is no longer a crime so no one will stop you , killing other people however is.I must ring the HSE , not having a Carbon monoxide alarm in my house .... they'll be mortified ... or won't turn up ... delete as appropriate .

Ever heard of the Darwin awards ?
