Straw 2017 here we go

First standing straw sales next week.
More on offer this year locally.
Trade ? Less cattle around but more digestors and power stations. Stand on last year? @gone up the hill @Forage Trader

Except for very good crops which will be up on the year the rest of if will have to be much cheaper @Sid as yields will be well down on most crops, wheat seems to be getting shorter by the day which I have never seen before.

Working on average wheat yields being 0.85/1 ton acre then if last years prices are maintained or even increased on the year then rough bag of the fag figures would put wheat delivered in at £120t, personally I cant see anyone paying that for straw as its just doesn't add up compared to alternatives.

Who has got Powderham's straw this year??

Lizzie Burton was with Stags then Kivells?

Ahh right didn't know she had set up on her own.

As far as I understood it the only reason that Kivells sold Powedhams straw was because they really like Alan W but now they have taken the straw sale away from him perhaps Powderham have decided to jump ship.

Iv been buying straw at Exeter straw sale for over 20 years and this years entry is the lowest by a long mile.

They only have 784 acres in catalogue.

Wonders which lot is next to @Jerry

Traditionally called Boundary. Some interesting agronomy ideas last few years leading some challenging weeds and questionable yields I would think.

Lots of changes ongoing on the estate since the passing of the old Earl. Expect more changes and reshuffles over the next couple of years. May or may not be a good opertunity for us, time will tell.

Who is farming there ground now?

The very large farmer that has been doing it is at the top of his game when it comes to arable farming.

Still same guy, agronomy lead has been changed though as some issues. Not helped by certain machinery choices.

New Earl looking closely at everything as they have too, death duties still to finalise.......but that's way off topic!!

What company is now doing the agromony? ( not the Exeter based company by any chance? )
